Volunteer Program

Muhlenberg Ambulance Association is one of a few organizations within the County of Berks that offers a structured volunteer program.  We provide out of hospital acute care and transport to definitive care for patients with illness and injuries which the patient believes constitutes a medical emergency.  There are four (4) levels of EMS.  Emergency Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), and Paramedic.  Each level represents a unique role, set of skills and knowledge base.

The Training Program here at Muhlenberg Area Ambulance Association has the students within the program playing an important role in the future of our Organization.  Muhlenberg EMS maintains a high standard of care and has worked very hard to develop the student program that meets the needs of the student regardless of their experience.  Training can be intimidating when learning something new.  Our Training staff takes pride in our program and understands that each and every student learns at their own pace and may learn differently.

Observers who are interested in EMS are permitted 36 hours of observer time prior to enrolling in an EMS course as listed above.  There are four (4) phases within the program that will guide the student to learning to function on their own as a healthcare provider.

Phase 1- Orientation Phase- 10 minimal patient contacts

Phase 2- Developmental Phase- 30 minimum basis life support calls

Phase 3- Function on your own as the team leader of the EMS crew

Phase 4- Emergency Vehicle Operations, driving emergency and non-emergency mode

HIPAA compliance is extremely important.  ANY breach of HIPAA results in immediate termination from the training program.
